Legal aspects of rail travel Cancellation, return and reimbursement

I can't use my ticket. Do I get my money back? Are there any fees?

Einzeltickets can generally be returned before the first day of validity.

Zeittickets can also be returned during the validity period. They are reimbursed in part, i.e. only for the period after which the ticket is no longer used.

The company may charge an adequate handling fee for the return of tickets. If the fault lies with the company, e.g. in the event of a train cancellation and the ticket can no longer be used within the validity period, no fee may be levied by the company.

The legal basis is Article 9 of the Railway Transportation Act.
