Tickets Trips across federal states

How are trips to neighbouring federal states beyond the Tyrolean network region regulated?

I would like to travel to another federal state or through a corridor (border area) with my KlimaTicket.

For trips beyond the Tyrolean network region, the ticket can be combined with an ÖBB ticket from the last place the train stops in Tyrol: If you have a Netz-Ticket for Tyrol and Vorarlberg, both tickets can be combined.

The same applies to trips to Salzburg or Carinthia: for the German corridor between Kufstein and Salzburg, an ÖBB ticket must be purchased from the last stop in Tyrol.

How are trips to neighbouring states regulated with a Schulticket Tyrol or Lehrticket Tyrol?

The VVT Schulticket Tyrol /Lehrticket Tyrol is valid within the Tyrolean network region. According to ÖBB Fare Conditions, it is possible to string together young people’s tickets from neighbouring federal states at the shared network borders. Trips across the German corner are exempt from this.*

The combination of a VVT Tyrol Ticket with an ÖBB-Ticket is possible. The ÖBB-Ticket must be redeemed from the last and up to the first stop of the respective train in the Tyrolean network region.

* The Kufstein – Salzburg route via the German corner, which is served by ÖBB's long-distance service, is not covered by any Austrian transport alliance. These services are therefore not covered by the compensation of costs by transport alliances. Therefore, it is not possible to use the already greatly discounted SchulPlus-Tickets & LehrPlus-Tickets on ÖBB long-distance trains on this route.

Alternatively, the ÖBB VORTEILSCARD Jugend, which entitles you to a fare reduction of up to 50% for every trip within Austria but also across the German border, can be purchased at a price of EUR 19 for one year.

Assistance can also be applied for from the federal and state governments for trips across federal states for the purpose of attending school:

  • you can obtain all the necessary information on the school travel allowance from the responsible tax office at your place of residence and the corresponding "Beih85" form can be found on the Ministry of Finance website at www.bmf.gv.at
  • If the statutory school travel allowance is not sufficient to cover the travel costs, there is an additional travel allowance from the province of Tyrol for these cases. Further information can be obtained from the Tyrolean provincial government office: https://www.tirol.gv.at/bildung/landesgedaechtnisstiftung/schueler-studenten-foerderung/.
